Which Machine?
Scissor Lifts
These machines are excellent when large areas
of work are to be covered. They can be driven while
elevated and usually have a large capacity allowing you to take
tools and light materials up to the workplace with you.
Restrictions are that these machines have a limited outreach and
generally require surfaces that are flat, hard and level.
Vertical Personnel Platform
These machines are perfect when there is
restricted access to the workplace. These machines fit
through most doors and are much lighter than scissor lifts.
They can reach great height, but can only take one person and
some tools. There is no outreach and the machine cannot be
driven while elevated.
Self Propelled Booms
Like the scissor lift, this machine can be
driven while elevated. Above that, it has an outreach so
that you can reach over obstacles. The capacity is less
than that of a scissor lift, and it also needs a flat and level
surface to operate.
Vehicle Mounted Platforms
Vehicle mounted platforms are very popular
with people who have to do small jobs in various places.
Unlike the scissor lift, this machine cannot be driven while
elevated, although it has an outreach so you can reach over
obstacles. Users must have a valid driving licence
suitable for the vehicle in question.
Trailer Mounted Booms
Like the vehicle mounted platforms, this boom
is popular with people who have to do small jobs in various
places. It can be towed by a normal car. The
machines are not self propelled, i.e. they cannot be driven
while elevated. But like the self propelled booms, they
have an outreach so that you can work over obstacles.
At Turner Access we deliver IPAF training on
all of the above machines.
