Justin’s Bedroom Makeover
The Turner Group recently received a request from WellChild, a national charity for sick children, to organise a makeover for six year old Justin Meek’s bedroom. He suffers from a very rare condition called Prader-Willi like syndrome which means he is oxygen dependant 24/7, has no mobility and has limited communication skills. He is tube fed and requires daily injections of growth hormone which are administered at home by his parents on whom he completely relies for his care.
As Justin is in a wheelchair, his home has been adapted to accommodate his needs but his bedroom had been left looking dull and unfinished. This was the first ever WellChild Helping Hands project in Scotland and it was a hardworking team of volunteers from Team Q who gave their time to carry out the makeover over a Friday and Saturday.
The team consisted of Kevin McCue, Ronnie Tippet, David Steel, Ian Tucker and Amy Hindley with materials kindly supplied by Jewsons, JRC Trading Company and Caldwell Wright.
The room was completely revitalised by the makeover which included some creative touches such as a feature wall with a Scooby Doo mural which Justin likes. The team also presented Justin with a framed rugby shirt signed by the Scotland International Rugby Team which takes pride of place on his wall.
Justin’s parents were absolutely thrilled with the work and even got Justin an “I Love Team Q!” T-Shirt. His mum, Wendy said “We are really pleased with the work that has been carried out. We couldn’t have asked for any more from the team.”
Well done to everyone involved in this project.
