For the fourth year running, Turner Access Contract Scaffolding was approached by the Edinburgh International Festival to supply a stage structure in Festival Square for use at one of its events.
The Aberdeen Standard Investments Opening Event: Five Telegrams celebrated the start of the 2018 International Festival, which took place on Friday 3rd August. The event consisted of a free outdoor digital performance celebrating Scotland’s Year of Young People and reflected on the centenary of the end of the Great War. The performance was inspired by telegrams sent by soldiers in 1918. It involved a classical orchestral score and projected digital artworks.
The stage structure was used as a viewing platform for the digital show. The first platform level was designed to facilitate wheelchair access; the second and third platform levels provided standing space for the audience.
Due to existing ornamental objects within Festival Square, the scaffold design had to be carefully planned in order to build around these decorative features.
