System Scaffolding - a definition:

System Scaffolding or Modular Scaffolding is designed and used for commercial and industrial applications because of its ease of installation, versatility and strength. Fast erection and dismantling is possible due to the modularity of the system, the absence of loose fittings, and a minimum of pieces required. All components are engineered to lock onto a unique rosette that accepts up to eight connections on the same plane. Typical applications include suspended scaffolding, inside tanks and boilers, industrial and petrochemical plants, pulp & paper mill digesters and vessels, ship repair, temporary stair systems, general construction, and special events.

In continental Europe there is a large uptake of system scaffolding whereas in the UK there still seems to be a preference for tube and fitting. However with the introduction of the WAH regulations passed in March 2005 many experts believe that there will be a move towards system scaffolding as it is more suitable for the use advanced guardrails.
